How VIN programming works

After purchase you must provide your vehicle VIN. We will program the ECM to that VIN before shipping.

Important installation & relearn information

Please read carefully – these procedures may be required for the vehicle to operate correctly after installation:

• Anti-theft (security) password relearn:

  • The vehicle may or may not start immediately after installation.
  • If the vehicle does not start, or if it runs for a period then fails and sets code P0633, an anti-theft password relearn is required so the replacement ECM can learn the security password.
  • This is best performed at the time of installation to avoid inconvenience.
  • Requires a programming tool (J2534 interface or equivalent) and access to ACDelco TDS (ACDelco Technical Delivery System). The cost to program one vehicle via ACDelco TDS is approximately $40.
  • A properly equipped auto repair shop, dealer, or locksmith can perform this procedure.

• Crankshaft variation relearn:

  • After the vehicle is running, a crankshaft variation relearn may be necessary.
  • If required, the check engine / service engine soon light may appear and code P0315 may be stored.
  • A scan tool capable of performing this relearn and clearing codes is required. If you don’t have access to one, a repair shop must perform it.
  • The vehicle may run normally but the SES light will remain on until this relearn is completed and related codes are cleared.

Flex-fuel vehicles (E85) – critical note

If your vehicle is a flex-fuel model and there is any E85 (ethanol) in the tank, you must drain the tank and flush the fuel lines before installing the new ECM so the ECM can calibrate properly with gasoline.
